Council responsibilities

Allotments
Provision and maintenance of allotments for cultivation. Judging and presentation of Millennium Cup for best kept plot.

Cemetery
Provision and maintenance of burial rounds. Committee
(Cemetery and the Religious Society of Friends' Burial Ground and Meeting House, Horn Hill Road)

Clocks
Maintenance of public clocks. Grants have been given (upon receipt of application) towards winding and maintaining St Mary's Church clock and carillon.

Commons
Power to protect any finally registered Common which has no registered owner.

Halls
Provision of buildings for public meetings and functions, use by clubs, etc. The Lucy Plackett Activity Centre (formerly the Youth Centre), built by Adderbury Parish Council and managed by a Management Committee.

Litter
Provision of litter bins in street. 16 litter bins located throughout village. Provision of five dog litter bins.

Open Spaces and Parks
Provision and maintenance of public open spaces, pleasure grounds and public walks.
Adderbury Lakes amenity area, ownership transferred to Parish Council in April 2003. Managed by Council's Adderbury Lakes Management Committee.
The Old Railway Embankment, purchased from British Rail and managed as a nature conservation area.
The Green, 'managed' by Adderbury Green Association, maintained by Parish Council with financial contribution from Adderbury Green Association.
Keyte's Close Amenity Area, Adderbury Court Garden, Rawlins Close Public Open Space – adopted and maintained by Parish Council.

Playing Fields
West Adderbury Playing Field is maintained by the Parish Council as trustees of the Lucy Jane Plackett Trust. A children's play area is provided.
The Rise Play Area (leased from Cherwell DC) is maintained and play equipment provided.
Two Members of Council responsible for regular inspection of play equipment.

Roadside Verges
Grass maintenance carried out to many areas within the village.

Seats
Provision and maintenance of public seats on highway. Eight seats have been provided.

Shelters
Bush shelters are provided at West Adderbury and on Oxford Road (in each direction near to The Rise and outside the Bowls Club). Perch seats have been provided at The Rise bus stops and the Bowls Club bus stop.

Signs
Powers to erect signs which warn of dangers or announce a name or indicate a bus stop. Adderbury village name-plates provided; signs for Lucy Plackett Playing Field. Warning signs at allotments and old railway bridge abutment.

Traffic Calming
Powers to investigate the management and control of traffic in the local area and to contribute towards expenses incurred by the Highway Authority in providing traffic calming works for local benefit. Three 'Kill Your Speed' signs provided. Traffic Calming Committee investigated traffic calming scheme for village as a whole.

Trees
Power to plant and maintain. Numerous trees have been planted by the Parish Council over the years.
